The first hole at Chatsworth is a deceptively difficult shorter par four. The fairway rises steeply to a green that cannot be seen until you are virtually upon it. Only the longest drives clear the crest and allow a clear view of the green.

This hole is deceptively harder than the figures suggest. Beware the rough on the right hand side. A ball in here is invariably lost. The perfect shot for the average golfer should aim to land on the right of the fairway where the gradient is less. The second shot is blind to a small green; ensure you choose the correct club for the distance and don't worry if you don't make the green. The rough is closer to the green on the left so bear this in mind.

An interesting and beautiful hole. Again not long in length but a near ninety degree dogleg to the left adds greatly to its charm together with out of bounds on the left. A copse of large mature trees forms the corner of the dogleg and on rounding them a superb view of Chatsworth House unfolds. The green is found at the base of a downhill fairway.

There is a choice when playing this hole depending on the length and accuracy of your drive. The cautious line is to play down the middle of the fairway keeping the trees to your left. Be careful not to hit the drive too far or you will find yourself in the rough or between small trees. It is then a short second shot but you will find it difficult to hold the ball on the green. The adventurous shot is to attempt to drive the green over the trees. However, it is not just length you are looking for but height to clear the trees. Beware the out of bounds on the left which can come into play even with a straight drive, clipping the top of the trees could divert your ball there. However, if your shot is successful you will be rewarded with the opportunity of a birdie: risk and reward!

A short uphill walk to the 3rd tees provides you with rewarding views towards Chatsworth House on the right. A short, relatively level par 4 commences with a drive between trees onto a wide fairway and approach to the fairly level green.

Golfers with a consistently straight drive should score well on this hole. The drive has to be very accurate off the tees if it is to pass through the narrow gap between the trees. However, once through the trees the hole widens out providing an extensive area to land your ball. It is then just a short iron to the green. Be careful not to over hit your approach as a large mature tree could cause you issues.

Hole 4 is a long par 4 comprising a 90 degree dog leg to the right around the edge of a wood. The fairway is generally flat and the green is hidden until you are virtually upon it as the near approach falls away. Again, as you approach the green superb views suddenly open up to Chatsworth House.

The drive off the tees is over a wide fairway to the corner of the dog leg to the right. Beware the ditch that traverses the fairway level with the corner. There is a dense wood along the right length of the fairway which is out of bounds. Long hitters should be careful not to hit too long a drive as they will find themselves in the rough. It is important to clear the corner. Here risk and reward comes into play should you be prepared to take the chance of cutting the corner and driving over or shaping around the trees. The second shot is long to a blind green with the fairway dropping away to the right as the two tier green approaches. The fairway is generous so it is worth "having a go" with your second shot. The rough does get quite heavy though near the green.

The hole 5 tees are found behind the fourth green. Don't forget to ring the bell to let following players know the green is clear. Superb views over the estate beckon you. This is an uphill par 3, with no obstructions, onto a relatively flat green.

The drive from the tees is uphill on this par 3 and accordingly plays longer than you think. Take an extra club and a good shot is required to hit the green. The fairway falls away from the right side of the green into heavy rough and then out of bounds.

Hole 6 is long and straight and as such designated par 5. The fairway is found over a longer carry than normal and is not visible from the tees. The fairway is wide with rough to either side. Please ring the bell to notify anyone waiting on the tee.

Although there is a carry from the tees to the blind fairway there is a very generous fairway beyond so you can be confident to hit out if that is your style. Wind strength and direction can greatly affect how this hole plays. Long hitters will make the green in two. Be aware that there is heavy rough on both sides of the fairway. The green has quite a slope and easier putting can be found on the left below the flag.

A short par 3 with an uphill fairway sloping from left to right to an elevated flat green.

Pick the right club. The elevated green is flat and will hold your ball. There is an uphill bank to the rear of the green which can assist a slightly over hit ball to remain on the green. From the tee a number of mature trees are in view so try not to let them distract you. Anything short off the tee kicks to the right.

The 8th tee is set right back at the edge of the course with the fairway and green opening up before you, The fairway slopes down with a left to right down incline and then up steeply to the green, There is heavy rough on right hand side of the hole. In general the green slopes from back right down to front left.

A decent drive will land you in a hollow below the green leaving a short iron up to the hole. Be careful not to push your drive out to the right as the rough here is heavy. Landing your ball on the front left of the green will give you an easier uphill putt to the hole.

The tees can be found approximately 50 yards over the back of the 8th green and adjacent to the Baslow Road. Here expansive views open up over the Edensor village church. A par 4 of reasonable length with a slight dogleg to the right and down a steep hill to the green at the bottom. There is heavy rough to the right and a copse of mature trees forming the dogleg.

From the 9th tees the green can just be seen at the bottom of the hill if the trees are not in full leaf. This hole can play very differently when the ground is hard and dry. A longish drive to the left of the mature trees forming the dogleg should kick right and travel a fair distance down the fairway to the green on a hard fairway. However, the tree on the right tends to act as a magnet for your ball with some very heavy rough close by. Otherwise play well to the left of the trees from the tees. The green slopes away from you so it is difficult to hold your ball with the second shot. On a soft green day it may be worth playing up to it otherwise running your ball down to it may be preferable.

A steeply uphill par 4 with a slight dog leg left with the green over the brow of a hill. There is difficult rough on both sides of the fairway.

A long drive will give you a view of the green (or at least the flag). A shorter drive leaves a blind 2nd shot. Be careful to keep the drive on the fairway as the rough will certainly penalise you. The rough to the right is particularly difficult with many lost balls.

This hole is a dog leg left around a small group of mature trees. There is severe rough to the right with out of bounds to the left.

Big hitters can drive over the trees straight for the green. Mere mortals take a smaller club to the corner of the dog leg.

This is a slight uphill drive and the wide fairway opens up once clear of the large trees on the right hand side.

Here you have a good chance to pick up shots before the difficult holes to come. A far less intimidating drive than the 3rd hole the first time around. The wide fairway gives the best chance of an easy approach to the green.

A difficult par 5. A dog leg right around edge of the wood opens up a wide fairway to the blind green. There is rough on both sides of the fairway. The hole generally rises very slightly along its length with the last 75 yards sloping down to the green.

This hole is made difficult by the fact that it takes a very long drive to make the turn. Best to keep left to give a second that will at least get you round the corner. However, the more left you are the longer the second shot. Beware the trees on the right hand side. The green is blind over the brow of a hill on the second shot. There is heavy rough on both sides and if you shoot for the blind green on your second shot make sure you don't find yourself in the rough. Or you might not find your ball!

A very long uphill par 3. Superb views over the Estate enhance this hole. There is rough on right hand side followed by out of bounds,

Think of a club for this uphill par 3 then add another one! Beware the right side of the green it falls away quickly to deep rough.

A long par 4 with a wide gently sloping fairway and an open approach to the sloping green. There is rough on both sides of generous fairway.

This long par 4 requires two good shots to reach the green. The fairway, however, is generous and gently sloping so you can hit with confidence. The green slopes quite a lot from top right to bottom left. Easier putts can be gained by landing below the pin and on the left.

A mid length par 3 starting off slightly downhill then rising to a plateau green which lies above tee height. A large tree lurks on the left hand side if you stray too far over.

Again you may require a bigger club than you think. There is a bank at the rear of the green which can hold up a slightly over hit tee shot. Beware the large mature tree on the left before the green, it tends to act as a magnet.

Walk a fair distance from the 16th green to the 17 tee at the edge of the course with trees behind and above you. The fairway slopes from left to right with rough on right hand side. Landing on the left hand side of the green leaves an uphill putt.

A hole to try and improve your score on. The drive opens up a wide fairway but beware the right hand side large tree and deep rough. The short second shot is from way below the green so the base of the pin is not visible. The ball will hold.

This is a steeply sloping downhill par 3 from the elevated tee. The fairway is wide and open. The green slopes away and from right to left.

There are two ways to play this short downhill par 3. Go for the green with a full lofted shot or play it short down the slope to run onto the green. Weather and ground conditions will influence this decision. Either way it is very difficult to hold the ball on the green as it continues to slope away from you.
