It is now time for me to take over as your Captain for 2021. First of all I would like to thank Captain Phil Barber for all his work and endeavours this year. COVID-19 seems to have met him at every corner trying to scupper any plans he made so in what must be one of the most challenging years ever as Captain he deserves all our thanks. In the coming year I am sure we are all hoping that we can get back to some normality and fingers crossed COVID free. I’m looking forward to the year ahead and hoping that everyone will have an enjoyable year of Golf.
I am very pleased that John Bennett has accepted my invitation to become Vice Captain and I am sure he will be a great help for me and for the future of the Club. I am looking forward to working together with him and Lady Captain Sue Lloyd in the coming year. I am hoping for us to be able to have a more normal year (if COVID-19 will let us). I hope everyone will be able to join in and enjoy. Let’s have a great bounce back year.
Wednesday Club night is a great place to start, all are welcome. It’s a good social event and a good way of getting to know new friends, particularly for new members. When I joined the Club I didn’t know any of the members. It was by joining in on Club night that I found what a friendly Club it is and I have made some great friends. Please come along, you will be welcome.
My charity this year will be Ashgate Hospice and I hope we can support them. This is a local charity that greatly benefits the area. I believe, like all charities at the moment, they need all the help they can get.
I am looking forward to the Captains Holiday in April and fingers crossed things will go well in Portugal. I am also hoping to arrange a short break holiday later on in the Year in the UK giving a chance for those who did not wish to travel abroad to have a holiday.
As Phil Barbers year as Captain was not a normal year, nor was my year as Vice Captain, I feel I have a lot to learn. Please bear with me while I find my way.
Best Wishes
Robert McDonald, Captain 2021
I joined the Club in the early 1980's in the reign of the redoubtable Denis Fisher who sponsored my membership. He hated lady golfers so it was a big honour!
Hi everyone, I am Sue, Lady Captain for this year. I have been a member of Chatsworth Golf Club so long I can't remember when I joined but it was in the early 1980's in the reign of the redoubtable Denis Fisher who actually sponsored my membership (he hated lady golfers so it was a big honour!). I am still the fairly hopeless golfer that I was then but as keen as ever.
I am thrilled to have been asked to be Lady Captain and I will try and do my best to support the club in all its endeavors this year. Hopefully we will all be able to play golf again soon, and some kind of normality will be resumed. It probably will be a new socially-distanced normal, so I think it is up to all of us to make playing at the club as fun and sociable as possible.
I intend to join in with everything planned and I hope you will all do too. This last year has shown how important it is to our physical and mental wellbeing to meet people and exercise and our wonderful golf club provides us with the opportunity to do both. I look forward to meeting you on the course during the summer.
See you on the course
Sue Lloyd, Ladies Captain 2021
